During the time I travelled and lived in The United States for my music, I always tried to capture the ancient atmosphere and significance of the most amazing places I had ever seen in my life: the American National Parks and Monuments. The music I have composed for this album was born when I was deeply immersed in the places I call ‘God’s creations’. To help you understand these feelings, I would like to share with you some of my most memorable experiences during my American adventure. My travelling companion and I had been to The United States before but we never visited the National Parks .…we were a bit nervous not knowing much about the places we were going to visit, where we were going to sleep, how we would be travelling and unaware of the adventures that lay ahead of us. Our journey would take us to Arizona, Mexico, California, Utah, Colorado and Florida. Our first visit was to Monument Valley in Utah, very early in the morning. At the break of dawn, when the sun was about to come out, there was a magic light shining over the sandstone rocks … I have never been so affected by nature. Next stop was Antelope Canyon in Arizona, another beautiful and unforgettable place. Upper Antelope Canyon is called Tsé bighánílíní by the Navajo Indians which means ‘the place where water runs through rocks’. Torrents have formed these rocks, changing their winding shape continuously for centuries. On our way to Bryce Canyon in Utah, we passed Lake Powell and Zion National Park. Bryce Canyon is famous for the geological structures called hoodoos: rocks sculptured by erosion. In the sunlight, the hoodoo peaks seemed to be on fire … another absolutely amazing sight! We arrived in Las Vegas at night and it was an odd sensation to see the city’s lights from so far away, coming from an utterly dark desert. Next was Death Valley in California (strange, hot desert) and we stopped at Dante’s View where we could overlook Death Valley. We drove to Zabriskie Point to see for ourselves the location of M. Antonioni’s Zabriskie Point movie. Our next stop was a slightly cooler place … Redwood National Park where hundreds of giant red wood trees (sequoias) towered above us. Yosemite National Park was another unforgettable experience with its waterfalls, Half Dome, Glacier Point and El Capitan. We stayed at the Ahwahnee Hotel, location of Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining. We had a nice stay and didn’t go crazy … We still had many miles to cover but were anxious to get to Yellowstone National Park. The Indians used to call it Mitzi-a-dazi, meaning River of Yellow Rocks or Yellow Stone. They were afraid to go there for they feared the geysers, in fact they thought the geysers were the gates to hell. White Sands desert in New Mexico was our last stop before duty called us to Florida. The Everglades with its flora and fauna was truly stunning … The power of nature is overwhelming and listening to music on Natural Feelings, I hope I am able to share with you the impact these natural wonders had on me. (With all my heart, Alberto)
